- plagues, poverty, perpetual war, famine, religious persecution, & land shortages are all solved with a ten week voyage to the new world.
- Jamestown was the first permanent english settlement in 1607. When winter 1610 hit and they began to starve, members of the community fled to the watching indians for survival. The governor demanded the return of the white men, and the indian chief Powhatan refused, the english did what they always have. What they are best at. Pillage, and murder. They stole women and children, the queen. Dumped the children overboard to drown and stabbed the queen to death. This was the beginning of America.
- The final straw between Great Britain and the colonies was taxation without representation. Was it really or is that just the excuse used?
- with america firmly in independance after a brutal 8 years war, we had to define ourselves. in 1801 thomas jefferson is elected president and sends the navy to tripoli, ready for war. The Barbary pirates demanded toll, the americans refused and by 1815 had won, forcing the pirates to sign a treaty allowing american vessels safe free passage. We flexed our muscles.

- 1812-1815 US declared was on the UK. The us pushed against the uk canada border, and britain pushed into dc and burned the presidences residence. We painted it white to hide the scorch marks and the white house was burned. The war was a stalemate, but good did come out of it as Tchaikovsky was inspired to write his 1812 overture, his best known piece.
- Manifest Destiny “obvious or undeniable fate” led the US to claim the whole continent, going to war with mexico, and invading their country in search of criminals and cattle.
- the early 19th century gave way to the monroe doctrine, stating in 1823 that America was the protector of all independant nations in the western hemisphere, and that we would remain neutral in all european conflicts.
