- I was hoping for your take on something that I have been pouring over for a couple months now. Inspired to ask by Heather’s last segment, how do you think a successful witch can work in a male dominated industry? Many argue women have a very hard time getting their foot in the door, because of discrimination and favoritism, in male dominated industries. I posit and wonder, however, how a smart women could not use the male majority to her advantage, since, well, men usually like pretty ladies.
I am 18 and in my second year of college (so I don’t know much about the professional workplace) studying for a male dominated field of work: programming for video games. My school is currently 90% male and, while I have not utilized the connections, I definitely receive a lot of attention from the male students, as well as the female students. Most of the male students are interested sexually, and, since there’s so few of us, the female students tend to band together in an attempt to help each other out.
Based off my experience I am unsure how the professional workplace will function and if my vagina will help or hinder me, since it has been presented to me that women have a hard time in male centered industries, but for the time being it has been nothing but useful.
As I am only young and inexperienced, I was hoping you old codgers could shed some light and share your experiences. - I have found being a “pretty female” to be a plus for formulating relationships and connections both in my school and my hobbies (I’ve become fairly involved with the San Francisco kink and BDSM community and young ladies are in high demand).
Will I be able to ride this wave as long as I’m young and wear more temping makeup, or will this end with college, or is it possible to age gracefully in this male dominated industry?
