About In Nomine
Written by Derek Pearcy + Illustrated by Dan Smith
Edited by Jeff Koke, Steve Jackson, and Susan Pinsonneault
Cover art by John Zeleznik (first printing) and Christopher Shy (second printing)
In Nomine is a modern roleplaying game in which the players take the part of celestial beings – angels and demons – as they struggle for control of humanity and themselves. The celestials, powerful though they may be, are merely pawns in a much larger game being played by their Superiors, the Archangels and Demon Princes. Based on the best-selling French RPG by the wonderfully diabolical Croc!
In Nomine won the Origins Award for Best Graphic Presentation of a Roleplaying Game, Adventure, or Supplement of 1997.

Discussion
About
There are few occasions that require Blandine to manifest on the Corporeal Realm, or Earth. When she does, Blandine, a Cherub, appears as a beautiful woman in her early twenties. She has black hair and green eyes, often wearing gray clothing with elaborate embroidery. Blandine is a loner, preferring to stay out of Archangel politics. This doesn’t mean she’s standing on the sidelines of The War however. It is generally agreed that she has done more measurable good than any other Archangel for mankind. She humbly carries out her orders, and follows her Word, helping humanity achieve their goals and dreams with as little interference as possible.
Blandine’s servants also prefer to stand back and allow other celestials to battle, while they engage in subtle manipulations, preferring to avoid outright violence. Their roles are to walk the Ethereal Realm, or The Marches nightly, monitoring the myriad of dreamworlds far from Earth, helping mankind battle their fears. They allow themselves a few lonely hours to nurse their empty soul before reaching the morning light and rejuvenating their Essence. The minions of Beleth, Princess of Nightmares are Blandine’s dire enemies.
Dissonance
Notes of Dissonance are generated by acting against your nature as a celestial. For servants of Blandine, they also generate Dissonance by taking their celestial form in the mundane world, or by using Celestial Songs on Earth. Both of these actions are strictly forbidden by Blandine. As a Servitor of Blandine, most are assigned specific dreamers to guard. If one of these Servitors intentionally refrains from warning the dreamer of coming danger, they will also generate Dissonance until the situation is resolved.
Choir Attunements
Blandine offers Choir Attunements to her servitors with only a few being restricted to a specific choirs. The Seraphim are able to immediately recognize intruders in another person’s dreams. Cherubim are able to automatically enter the dreamworld of those they are attuned to. This is a restricted attunement. The Ofanim are incredibly comfortable traveling the Ethereal Realm. They may stay in a dreamscape for minutes equal to the check digit plus their Ethereal Forces. Elohim’s natural emotional resonance is ever active in the Marches, though they may attempt to improve it by rolling. This is also a restricted attunement. The Malakim are not noticed in the Marches unless they wish to be. Kyriotates may be in more than one portion of The Marches at a time, equal to their Ethereal Forces. This is also restricted. And finally Mercurians may use dreams as conduits, and may pass from one dreamscape to another if the dreamers are close to each other.
Servitor Attunements
For those Servitors who are on the good side of Blandine, she offers a few Servitor Attunements as well. Dream Walking allows the servant to enter the mind of a human dreamer. The Angel must be asleep however. Healing Dream allows the user to scan a person’s memory as they dream. They must be within a half a mile and they must be asleep. This is an incredibly powerful attunement and requires six Essence, and an hour to enact.
Distinctions
Servitors who perform admirably may be rewarded with distinctions by Blandine. The Vassal of Dreams may send a ny dreamer into a blissful dream on Blandines side of The Marches. The Friend of Sleepers is able to detect when a dreamer is celestial–inflicted in their dream. And lastly the Master of Realms of Night gains a bonus of two to any roll made while in The Marches.
Relations
The Archangel of Dreams insists her Servitors stay out of heavenly politics. Preventing them from sabotaging other celestial’s dreams unless to protect her Word. She is coldly neutral to David, Jean, Marc, and Michael as they often work against her Word. If required to cast a vote, Blandine often sends one of her angels of Hope, and her vote is cast at Yves’ discretion. She is not allied to anyone, but is associated with Yves.
Basic Rites
There are two basic rites that Servants of Blandine may use to recover Essence. The first is to sleep for four hours without entering Beleth’s Realm, and the second is to sleep for eight consecutive hours, protecting a sleeper from active danger.
Chance of Invocation
There is a basic chance of invocation of two for Blandine, but it may be raised by holding a book of fairy tales, a sleeping potion, a handwritten collection of lullabies. Being in a bed where a demon slept who was in The Marches, being with a dreaming individual in a car, train or airplane. Being in a room where ninety people are peacefully dreaming, or standing at the top of Blandine’s Tower.
As you can see, Servitors of Blandine will more likely than not be found in the Ethereal Realm, which is a crazy dream world of adventure. If you are looking for an outlandish campaign where you visit the malleable dreams of mortals and protect them from Ethereal Spirits and Demons, this might just be the Superior for you.
