About In Nomine
Written by Derek Pearcy + Illustrated by Dan Smith
Edited by Jeff Koke, Steve Jackson, and Susan Pinsonneault
Cover art by John Zeleznik (first printing) and Christopher Shy (second printing)
In Nomine is a modern roleplaying game in which the players take the part of celestial beings – angels and demons – as they struggle for control of humanity and themselves. The celestials, powerful though they may be, are merely pawns in a much larger game being played by their Superiors, the Archangels and Demon Princes. Based on the best-selling French RPG by the wonderfully diabolical Croc!
In Nomine won the Origins Award for Best Graphic Presentation of a Roleplaying Game, Adventure, or Supplement of 1997.

Discussion
About
Haagenti usually appears as a hairy, screaming demon about three feet tall, with a huge mouth ringed by razor-sharp teeth. Rather than walking, he tends to hop and skip, eating everything he can get his greedy little hands on. Haagenti despises nearly every other Prince, primarily because he spent some six hundred years toiling under them! He began as a gremlin under the Prince of Sloth, and worked biting and scratching up the proverbial ladder with ruthless, angry, hungry energy. He promised himself that once he got to the top, he would consume his enemies, one after the other.
He eventually became a full demon, a Calabite and servant of Belial. This is where he caught the attention of Kobal. The Demon Prince of Dark Human bartered with Balial for Haagenti and even sponsored him for the Word of Gluttony, ultimately adopting him as a brother. With this new sponsorship, Haagenti grew even more powerful. Once he had his own servitors, Haagenti ate Messerach, Prince of Sloth. Lucifer was so impressed, he elevated him to Prince. His newfound status didn’t change him though. He was ever the energetic, greedy demon, but now he demands obedience and food. He still has his sense of humor but has begun to enjoy torture and sight gags. His servitors cover the globe encouraging overeating and are even known to aid Kobal’s minions in harassing mankind.
Dissonance
Dissonance is what you earn if you act against your nature, or your Prince’s Word. For servitors of Haagenti it is dissonant to go more than a number of days equal to their Corporeal Forces without forcing a human to consume. They cannot hold back the urgency of Gluttony without earning notes of Dissonance.
Band Attunements
Superiors may grant their servitors Attunements. Some are restricted to the servitors band, but others may be purchased at character creation. Balseraphs are restricted. They are able to impose a Celestial Discord of Gluttony on their victims! It is a level equal to the demon’s Corporeal Forces, lasting for a number of days equal to the check digit of a successful resonance roll. Humans cannot gain discord but they must act as if they do for the duration. Djinn is partially restricted. They are able to detect the direction of the closest glutton. If they are attuned to the individual they automatically succeed in their resonance roll with a check digit of six if they have the Celestial Discord or disadvantage of Gluttony. Calabim gain one Essence if they provoke or participate in an orgy of consumption by destruction. I.e. a demolition derby or a blowout party. Habbalah may use their resonance, adding their Corporeal Forces, to make victims feel hungry. This will force them to gorge with a check digit of six. Lilim are partially restricted. They are wicked cooks, spending a number of hours in a kitchen to produce a meal that cannot be refused. Consumption of this meal delivers a geas to the Lilim. Shedim is restricted. If theri host is a glutton, then their Will is reduced by the demon’s Corporal Forces! And finally Impudites are restricted. Being true gluttons themselves, they only need to make physical contact to steal essence! This will create a disturbance in the Symphony equal to the Essence stolen plus the demon’s Corporeal Forces. It leaves the victim ravenous.
Servitor Attunements
There are some additional Servitor attunements available like Consume. This attunement allows the demon to see what hunger lies in the human’s heart, amplifying it to fiendish proportions. The victim may make a Will roll to resist, minus the demon’s Corporeal Forces. The second is Devour. This allows the demon to consume ten times their Corporeal Forces in pounds of ANY matter in a minute! This requires a Strength Roll and they must have the Numinous Corpus Song of Fangs to break up some material. This can even be used as an attack by spending one Essence.
Distinctions
If you serve Haagenti well, he may award you with a distinction. These are supernatural powers available only to his servitors. The Knight of Banquets can detect any form of nourishment within a forty foot radius. This includes humans living or recently dead. The second is Captain of Cannibals. It allows the demon to give any flavor to anything they touch for one d six minutes. And lastly Baron of Satanic Dishes. The demon may make anything they touch look and feel like an equal mass of food for one d six minutes. It is only an illusion.
Relations
Haagenti has a troubled relationship with most Princes. He is known to cooperate with other Princes of Shal-Mari, especially Kobal, his brother, with whom he is allied. This leaves Princes like Mammon, the Prince of Greed trying to align themself with Haagenti, claiming their words are associated, but Haagenti sees him as neutral at best. He is associated with Saminga and Nybbas, hostile with Belial, Malphas and Valefor, and the enemy of Asmodeus.
Basic Rites
There are two basic rites Haagenti offers his servitors to earn Essence. The first is to cause someone to eat fifteen pounds of food in a sitting, and the second is to absorb two-hundred pounds through the Devour Attunement.
Chance of Invocation
Servitors of Haagenti have a decent base chance of summoning him at three, but may gain additional modifiers by having a piece of candy with them, a Big Mac, a normal meal, a luxurious meal, fifty pounds of fast food or ten thousand whole fried chickens!
As you can see Haagenti would be a humorous and deadly addition to any In Nomine campaign, and if you are looking to leverage Gluttony in your NPCs or players, I would highly recommend including him in your home games.
