I packed my pack, tied my shoes, stowed my cigar and left the family for a solo sojourn into the Wasatch Mountains via Big Cottonwood Canyon. This is perhaps my favorite trail head, as there are so many connecting trails and beautiful vistas that look dramatically different per season. I took Butler Fork Trail to Dog Lake (Which is a bit of a lie of a name, as it’s more of a pond in size.) I ran across a moose who I had to clap and yell at to keep it off my ass, but after that, it was pure insects, flora and me.
