- Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett were working on an original film centered around a sister story, set to star Kathryn Newton and Samara Weaving. However, when Searchlight Pictures approached them to direct a sequel to “Ready or Not”, they proposed integrating their original sister story into the “Ready or Not” universe. Searchlight Pictures approved the idea.
- Kathryn Newton is a fan of Sarah Michelle Gellar and her series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997). Newton brought in a picture of Buffy from Welcome to the Hellmouth (1997) and recreated her outfit in this film.
- Radio Silence directed the fifth and sixth Scream films. The franchise also featured Samara Weaving and Sarah Michelle Gellar. In addition, Kevin Williamson, who wrote the first two Screams and directed Scream 7, wrote The Faculty (1998) that starred Elijah Wood and Shawn Hatosy.
