On a world of crimson skies and untamed beasts, where rancors once ruled the mountains and survival was measured in strength alone, a society unlike any other took shape. This is the story of the Witches of Dathomir — the Daughters of Allya — a people forged by exile, bound by tradition, and forever walking the razor’s edge between power and darkness.

Intro

Greetings, my fellow Scruffy-Looking Nerf Herders, and welcome back to The Infernal Brotherhood! Dathomir was never a gentle world. Its jagged terrain, blood-red soil, and apex predators made it one of the most hostile planets in the galaxy. Long before the rise of the Galactic Empire, Human settlers found themselves stranded here, cut off from the wider galaxy. Some had arrived as exiles during the age of the Paecian Empire millennia earlier, others perhaps as criminals or political outcasts. Over time, these populations merged into a hardened culture struggling to survive beneath the shadow of the planet’s true masters — the rancors. For generations, humans were prey. That would change with the arrival of a single woman.

ALLYA THE EXILE

Around 600 BBY, a Jedi Knight named Allya was cast out by the Jedi Order. Branded a rogue and exiled to Dathomir, she was sent to meditate on the Force in isolation — a punishment meant to break ambition and pride. Instead, Allya found a world in chaos. The humans of Dathomir lived in fear, hunted by rancors and divided among themselves. But Allya was a Jedi, trained in the ways of the Force, and she soon discovered something extraordinary. Through the Force, she could tame the rancors. Predators became mounts. Fear became dominance. And in that moment, Dathomiri society was forever transformed.

THE BIRTH OF THE DAUGHTERS OF ALLYA

Allya assumed leadership of the human population and reshaped it according to her vision. Female Force-sensitives became warriors and rulers, while men were reduced to laborers and breeders. Daughters were trained in the Force. Sons were not. Legend claims that Allya forged this society within a single lifetime — that all Dathomiri descended from her alone. While later historians would question this account, what is undeniable is Allya’s lasting legacy: the Book of Law. Written near the end of her life, it codified the moral and ethical foundation of her people. Its final line became sacred law: “Never concede to evil.” With Allya’s death, her daughters inherited not only her power, but her burden.

CLANS OF DATHOMIR

Over generations, the Daughters of Allya divided into clans, each named for the land they claimed — the Singing Mountain Clan, the Frenzied River Clan, the Misty Falls Clan, and many more. Each clan ruled from fortified villages, led by matriarchs who could live for centuries. Though united by shared ancestry and tradition, the clans developed their own interpretations of the Book of Law. They raided one another for mates, waged ritualized conflict, and measured strength as both a spiritual and physical virtue. Above all else, they believed power must never serve darkness.

SPELLS AND WARFARE

Unlike the Jedi, the Witches did not view the Force as abstract philosophy. To them, it was spellcraft — spoken words, chants, and rituals that bent reality to their will. These spells enhanced strength, controlled beasts, healed wounds, or unleashed devastating force in battle. Daily life was training. Muscles and mysticism were honed together. Warriors wore braided hair, lizard-skin armor, and trophies taken from fallen enemies. Mounted atop rancors, they became living symbols of dominance. Yet the line between power and corruption was thin.

THE NIGHTSISTERS

Those who crossed that line were exiled. The use of dark emotions — anger, hatred, vengeance — even in acceptable spells was forbidden. Offenders were cast out to purify themselves in the wilderness. Some returned. Others did not. These exiles became known as the Nightsisters. Banding together, they embraced the dark side outright, twisting Allya’s teachings into something far more dangerous. Though only one Nightsister clan ever existed at a time, they were feared by all others — a living reminder of what the Witches could become if they abandoned restraint.

FIRST CONTACT WITH THE JEDI

In 340 BBY, the Jedi training vessel Chu’unthor crashed on Dathomir. The Witches attacked, killing fourteen Jedi who attempted rescue. Only through negotiation did Master Yoda secure the release of the survivors. Before leaving, Yoda entrusted a young Witch named Rell with a collection of Jedi teachings, warning that one day a Jedi Knight and apprentice would return to help Dathomir face the darkness of the Nightsisters. The galaxy had noticed Dathomir.

SITH, SHADOWS, AND DARTH MAUL

In 54 BBY, the Sith Lord Darth Sidious arrived on Dathomir. A Nightsister named Kycina begged him to take her newborn son away from the brutal life of the Nightbrothers. That child was Maul. Sidious sensed the boy’s immense power and claimed him — unknowingly setting into motion plans that Mother Talzin herself had already begun weaving. Dathomir had once again shaped galactic destiny.

THE GALACTIC EMPIRE AND BEYOND

Under Emperor Palpatine, Dathomir became a penal colony — until the rise of the Nightsister leader Gethzerion forced the Empire to abandon the world. Imperials became slaves. Star Destroyers blockaded the system. After the Battle of Endor, Warlord Zsinj seized Dathomir, but was eventually defeated by Luke Skywalker and his allies. The Nightsisters were overthrown, and the clans freed. Dathomir joined the New Republic, though Imperial remnants, Sith cults, and invaders like the Yuuzhan Vong would continue to test its strength.

Outro

In time, Jedi trained on Dathomir. Jacen Solo studied under the Witches. A permanent Jedi Praxeum was established after the Yuuzhan Vong War. Yet the Witches never abandoned their identity. They remained warriors. They remained spellcasters. And above all, they remained daughters of Allya. Bound by a single truth, passed from mother to daughter across centuries: Never concede to evil.
