- What do you think of “positive thinking”? I was having a discussion with a friend about it and I think it’s bullshit because it doesn’t address the power of the will. I gave her some examples like someone studying for a test may be motivated by “negative thinking” (i.e. they get paranoid they’re gonna fail and they focus their will on studying for the test in order to pass it).
I’m pretty sure she got her view of positive thinking from watching movies like “The Secret.” I think that movie is misleading people to think that if they’re self-loathing individuals they have to masochistically avoid all negative thoughts and butter themselves up with positive thoughts in order to transform themselves.
