Today is a very special day, for today commemorates the day my friend and High Priestess of the Church of Satan was born. There are few individuals that have made such a lasting impression on me that I think of them when considering my own life choices. Magistra Nadramia is one of those individuals.
I first interacted with her after having released my inaugural Greater Magic Episode of 9sense Podcast in 2011. I received a message from her and I almost refused to believe it was real. It was simple and to the point: I would like to join you if you produce another one of those episodes. (paraphrased) I immediately responded and our friendship was born. To this day, I will smile ear to ear when I get a text about the latest episode of mine she has watched.
I am not sure everyone is aware of just how much Magistra Nadramia pays attention to us. She is active in social media and when a member of the Church of Satan creates something, you can bet that she has had her discriminating eyes on it. She may not let you know, but she sees it. This can be both an exciting and terrifying thought. My High Priestess sees everything I create, so I better make sure it’s the best it can be.
The first time I met her in person was at her home, The Black House. It was a Walpurgisnacht party that I boldly invited myself to, and she generously accepted. She was standing behind her bar in her tiki themed lounge and I’m not sure she recognised me at first. She was talking with another member and looked up at me. I greeted her, declaring who I was and her face lit up with a smile of recognition. She came from around the bar and gave both me and my wife a hug. She was so warm and friendly that I immediately fell in love with her as an individual. Up until that point I had respected her as a friend and my High Priestess, but there was no sense of personal connection.
I have had the pleasure of collaborating with her on various interviews and discussions. Each time there is a healthy back and forth with no question where she lands on a point. She is gracious and interested in what others have to say, and will be blunt in her reply when it is required. Honesty is such a rare trait, and it is one that she is generous with. Her excitement is infectious and when she is displeased, nature herself will react. Many Satanists refer to her as ‘mother’ but I prefer friend.
Let me conclude this birthday tribute with a message for Magistra Nadramia herself. I know I traditionally send private notes, so I hope you forgive this public interaction.
Magistra Nadramia, Thank you for your attention. Thank you for exercising your witchcraft on the Church of Satan but perhaps even more, its members. You have brought a sense of connection between us that I’m not sure existed before and a vitality to our online interactions that always leaves us with thoughts for reflection. You insist we act our better selves and I can honestly say for myself, I actively try to be a better man for having you in my life. I love you dearly and wish you the happiest of birthdays.
